GETTING PHO WOOOOOOOOO

i am not a loser who blogs random stuff

on a serious note.

I have to change my building again. Because of what Jeremy said. THIS BUILDING IS TOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HARD!...chris.
So i'm going to go back to the Milwaukee Art Museum.

AKUMA******************

What's Acuma?

JEREMY SAYS

MY BATTLE PLAN!

Okie dokie. So how am I gona tackle this building?!
WELLLLLLL
Unlike my previous choice, I do not have someone elses 3D model to start off with. But what i do have is plans and sections and elevations and lots of them. So yeah I have plenty of references to guide me. As for the actual modelling, I'm gona use max primarily. I'll import the architectural drawings in and go from there. Ive never modelled a whole building on max before, let alone one as difficult as this. I'm thinking that problems may arise when it comes to accuracy. It may be hard to line up all the invididual bits and pieces with eachother. That and the odd shapes may be a bit of a..pain. But other than that i think i'll be good. Im fine with texture and lighting.
Its good that I have so many photos of the building so i have all these different perspectives of it.
Also im hoping i don't have to model the interior !? DO I!? JEREMY!?
Anyway that is all i have to say for now.
Coming right up are some pictures. yay!

An Introduction to the Tenerife Concert Hall

Calatrava’s Tenerife Concert Hall which was finished in 2003 sits in the Canary Islands, Spain. It is located in the City of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The building features an auditorium which seats 1800, and a chamber music hall which seats 400 people. The building was commissioned in 1991 as a facility for musical and other cultural events, but also as a focal point of the city which would establish its growth and development.

The auditorium is recognizable by its curvy, concrete shell exterior.
‘Most of the richly differentiated volumes of this intricate compact composition were derived from relatively simple geometrical shapes or operations. For example, the shape of the roof is defined by two intersecting cone segments. The shape of the 50-meter hugh symmetrical inner shell of the concert hall was generated by rotating a curve to describe an ellipse: a wedge if approximately 15 degrees was removed from the center of this body so that its two segments form a pronounced ridge that supports the sweep of the roof.’

- Alexander Tzonis,Santiago Calatrava, The Complete Works, New York: Rizzoli International Publications, 2004, pp202

The main feature of the building is the huge, symmetrical, wave-like curve that arches 58 meters over the auditorium. The narrowing bow ends at a point and implies movement; typical of Calatrava. The majority of the building is made of concrete giving the exterior structure more dominance. However, smaller areas throughout the plinth of the building are made from the local volcanic rock, basalt. The plinth actually houses several technical facilities as well as the change rooms. On the side of the building are two wide 50 meter arches which serve as the entrance for performing artists. The main entrance is on the raised plaza under the hanging curve. A interesting thing to note is the relationship between the interior and exterior; with such a grand exterior, its amazing how such magnificent interior spaces exist within.

The Tenerife Concert Hall - Santiago Caltrava

So I've decided to settle with the Tenerife Concert Hall by Calatrava. This was once of my original choices anyway and it has always been in the back of my mind. I have found quite a few architectural drawings on the building and a hell of a lot of info so this shouldn't be a problem.
It is also a lot easier to model and it's good because I really didn't want to redo the 3D model of the Milwaukee Art Museum I found in the 3D Warehouse. I would prefer to start from scratch and do the job all myself.

To get started I, here's a short video i found on Youtube showing footage of the building's exterior. Cheezy music though --"

Enjoy.

BIG NEWS! 'CHRIS IS WHITE' SNEAKER!

HMMMMMMMMMMMM

Hi everybody!
So I'm thinking that the Milwaukee Art Museum may be a bit hard to model/remodel. Whodathunkit! But the thing is, I like Santiago calatrava. No, I LOOOOVE Santiago. He can be my husband for now. ANYWAY. I'm also considering changing my building because someone else reserved the book i had on the museum. Hence i must return it after only 7 days. what tragedy i know. So yeah. What i ended up doing was going to the mighty library at the University of Sydney and raiding their architecture section in search of dear Mr Calatrava the Almighty. And I was in luck! I came across four mighty books on the man of magic which i ended up lugging around on my skateboard. Really, some of these books were HUUUGEEEEE. (see attached pictures below of Kaffy (awesome woman) holding and dropping said books.)

SO by the next post (hopefully tonight if i don't fall asleep) I shall have a new building by Calatrava to work on.

Santiago Calatrava...I got bored. And he's awesome so he deserves this =)

Draft Dwelling for Pelargis

Pelargis is a simple creature; an easy going character that takes life easy. It has a body like a pair with long legs and suction feet to get it around, and sometimes upside down. Pelargis is a herbivore that lives in the bush. I imagine that it would shelter itself in a cosy home, yet one that it could interact with.

The idea for this dwelling was influenced by the creature's suction feet. They have been the basis for the building's aesthetic nature as well as function.

Spore Creatures - Slugo

A cool, crazy creature. Slugo is a land and water dwelling creature who is know for his stealth and sting. You never know when he'll get you until its too late. Slugo will come from behind and then attack with his tail of doom! Each blow is deadly and he'll make sure of that.

Spore Creatures - Beakeye

Beakeye is a maniac. A bird with three heads can never be good and Beakeye is the perfect example. Always quarelling and always indecisive. Beakeye is one stubborn Spore that will never get out of your head.

Spore Creatures - Pelargis

Pelargis, probably my favourite creation due to its simplicity and aesthetic appeal. It also looks friendly and he seems like a good client. Pelargis is outgoing and fun. With only a beak to defend it self and long legs to run away with, Pelargis prefers the peace but will never back down from a fight.

Spore Creatures - Stroogob

Stroogob is awesome. A little chunk of dynamite he is. This little guy can bash his way through anything with that great big spikeball attached to his head. Stroogob spends his days bashing through caves in search of food and fun.

Spore Creatures - Nuevelar

Man this thing is ugly! I don't know what I was thinking when i made it but I'm not complaining. Nuevelar has one of the weirdest bodies you will find anywhere. Its like a combination of ant, ice cream, xylophone and eyes. Yeah wtf. I'd have to say the most interesting thing about it would be his pincers which feature 8 eyes around it. This guy will never miss what he's trying to bite.

Spore Creatures - Limboona

Limboona: Named after the game limbo because he could be used as the stick i guess? Limboona is a big blue Spore with a stiff figure and a ridiculously straight spine. I can't say that it would help him much, because I don't think it does. Nevertheless, Limboona also has a giant, all-seeing eye which allows him to see all! well all that is in front of him at least. When it comes to weapons, Limboona fails. He has a nipply thing on his tail but I wouldn't really call that a weapon. Would you?

Spore Creatures - Leyla

Named after a dear friend, Leyla is crazy. Leyla is weird lookin. Leyla has one leg and six arms. Leyla has a beak that probably can't reach anything. Leyla fails at life because of all these things but Leyla is still awesome. I wonder if Leyla will read this. if so...then ENERGY!!!! Yes, Leyla gives energy to all other Spore creatures.

Spore Creatures - Biguel

This Bloody guy got me suspended from Spore for a week! So what if he has a huge donger. Its entertaining! Anyway, his name is Biguel, short for Big Miguel. But that's for another time. Biguel uses his huge weapon of destruction for everything. And I mean EVERYTHING. Biguel is also the cause of rising sea levels. Biguel was the cause of the Boxing Day Tsunami. Biguel will end the drought. Nuff Said.

Spore Creatures - BFG

I don't even know what BFG stands for! My friend named it. He also made most of it, but thats not the point. I will decide what BFG stands for right now. Boo Fum Goomba. Ok good. Simply put, Boo Fum Goomba is a giant insect. It's such a complicating creation. But it has the features of so many other creatures. Because of this. Boo Fum Goomba is always confused and disoriented. Therefore they will only live for a maximum of two days as their continuous state of confusion leads to spontaneous combustion O_____________________O

Spore Creatures - Pinehead

Pinehead is the first Spore I made, well the first decent Spore I made. His name derives from his Pineapple shaped head. Pinehead is a fierce creature; a highly aggressive, malicious predator. The spikes on his chest say it all; he doesn't like to mess around. Pinehead is also extremely alert to everything going on around him. The sensors in his ears keep him ready, but constantly paranoid. This causes him to go crazy at times, leaving him vulnerable to attack.
